It all began when my second daughter, Jeanne, was born.

During the first three months of her life, she slept almost constantly on me, tucked against my heart, like a sea otter and her baby floating together on the water.

That image naturally came to me when I picked up my charcoal to draw my very first mother-and-baby duo: a sea otter and her pup.

I must admit, I still regret a little that I sold the original.

But since then, this drawing has touched many mothers. So many have recognized themselves in that tenderness, that closeness, that deep bond between a mother and her child.

I continued exploring this theme through my animal drawings.

Today, this collection remains one of the most beloved among parents.
